Quarterway sells to $8000

TASMANIA has been suffering from a drier than usual summer and early Autumn, which prompted Quarterway Angus principal Trevor Hall to open his annual on-property sale with the talk of rain to hopefully come next week.

In the wrap up, 23 of 31 Angus bulls sold to a top of $8000, av $3913, while 15 of 20 females sold to a top of $2200.

Roy Freeman and Tony Seymour, Stonehouse Grazing, Lamont, purchased the top-priced bull, Quarter-Way Gothic G117, to put with their 700 head Angus female herd.

Stonehouse sold a top pen of calves at the Powranna weaner sale last year and received a $500 Quarterway Angus cash-back prize, prompting them to purchase their first Quarterway bull.

Mr Freeman said Gothic was the complete package, with plenty of depth.

The 16-month old bull was by Banquet Aberdeen, weighed in at 684 kilograms and had an actual eye-muscle area (EMA) of 92 square centimetres.

The second top bull, Quarter-Way Gladstone G115, was purchased by Wyambi Pastoral at $7000.

Lowly Pastoral took home two bulls to a top of $4000, av $3500, while R&Y Symmons also purchased two for a top of $4250, av $3625.
